The Role: Learning Specialist – Rand Center

We are looking for someone to join our Rand Center support team.  The Rand Center offers academic and executive function support to about 20% of our students, collaborating with Deans and teachers to identify and support students who benefit from extra scaffolding. The Learning Specialist works collaboratively with students, teachers, families, counselors, and administrators to support students with documented learning differences and executive functioning challenges. This position will focus primarily on supporting students in humanities courses - including English, history, and writing-intensive classes - while helping students develop effective reading, writing, organization, and self-advocacy skills. In addition to providing individualized academic support, the Learning Specialist will partner closely with classroom teachers to implement accommodations and promote inclusive instructional practices. The Learning Specialist also occasionally teaches sections of the Human Development course as part of the school's wellness and student support curriculum.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with students (both in one-on-one and in full-class settings) with focus, patience, and humor. They will be organized, proactive, and responsive. Key Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide reading and writing support to students one-on-one or in small groups via walk-ins, scheduled appointments, teacher referrals, and visits to classrooms.
  • Provide support to students one-on-one or in small groups concerning study skills, professional communication, executive functioning, accessing accommodation. etc.
  • Support students receiving learning support services, and help them develop self-advocacy skills and increase independence in managing accommodations.
  • Meet regularly with the Director of Rand Center, humanities departments and / or class deans to stay up to date on current areas of focus, assignments, general trends, needs, etc.
  • Teach Human Development class(es) as needed
  • Oversee the “Teaching Assistant” program

Candidate Profile

Qualifications

  • Experience working with high school students with learning differences in an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of reading, writing, executive functioning, and evidence-based learning strategies.
  • Experience supporting students in humanities and writing-intensive coursework.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborative, flexible, and student-centered approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

Employment Details

Compensation and Application

Hourly Rate Salary Range: $40.87–$45.67 per hour, commensurate with experience.
